Art Deco Zigzag Cufflinks
| Rippling zigzag circles finely engraved in
gold radiate outward to cool white borders embellished
with striking geometric motifs. The jazzy energy of the
centers and the elegant geometry of the borders epitomize the
beauty of Art Deco design. Crafted in 14kt white and
yellow gold, circa 1925.
As with all fine jewels it is important to examine the backs of cufflinks closely. The reverse of these cufflinks are crafted in 14kt yellow gold polished to a bright finish. The cufflinks are secured on the cuff with sturdy cross bars and strong brackets. Note that one end of the cross bars is stationary while the other is hinged to ease the passage of the cufflinks through the button hole. (Please excuse the shadowy reflections of the camera.)
The cross bars are stamped with the maker's mark of the Richardson Manufacturing Company, a fancy "R" followed by "14K" for the purity of the gold. Founded in 1840 by Enos Richardson, Richardson Manufacturing was one of the earliest makers of fine jewelry in the United States. During the 1920s and 1930s the firm created elegant Art Deco cufflinks that captured the jazzy aesthetic of the era.
