Classical Ruins Stickpin

Riker Bros. classical ruins stickpin. (J9457)

Ancient Architecture

Diminutive ruins of the classical world rendered in gold and accented with a luminous pearl and three ember-like rubies.  A finely crafted stickpin created by Riker Bros. in 14kt gold, circa 1900.

Jewelry has been described as architecture in miniature  -  both wed functionality and beauty, engineering and aesthetics.  The fluted column, sturdy side pilasters and open pediment with scrolls of this elegant stickpin literally illustrate the point.  In the years around 1900,  jewelry makers often found inspiration in the arts and architecture of the ancient past.

The back of the stickpin is as finely crafted as the front.  A gold purity mark "14K" is stamped on the upper left of the reverse and the maker's mark of Riker Bros. (an "R" above the curved blade of a saber) is on the upper right.  (photo below)

Cost:  Although this elegant stickpin has sold,  you will find many more beautiful stickpins in the Antique Stickpin Gallery.

Measurements:  This 14kt gold stickpin is 3" long and the top measures 3/4" long by just under 1/2" wide.  It weighs 2.6 grams.

Riker Bros.

Riker Bros. was one of the leading American makers of fine gold jewelry during the late Victorian and early 20th centuries.  The firm was especially known for whimsical griffins and dragons, fine enamel work and designs inspired by the classical past.  Its creations were retailed by Tiffany & Co. and other fine jewelers of the day.
