Art Nouveau Bat Stickpin

Art Nouveau bat stickpin. (J9470)

The Bat

A bat in mid flight swoops down from atop a golden stickpin.  The nocturnal aerialist is finely detailed with a wonderfully expressive face - just the right blend of beguiling charm and hinted menace.  Created by Riker Bros. in 14kt gold, circa 1900.

The stickpin is finely crafted with a sturdy gold pin to secure the jewel when worn.  On the reverse of the left wing the maker's mark of Riker Bros. (an "R" above a saber) and "14K" for the purity of the gold are stamped.  Riker Bros. was a maker of fine gold jewels founded in Newark New Jersey in 1846.  The firm was an early adopter of the Art Nouveau style.

Cost:  Although this elegant stickpin has sold,  you will find many more fine stickpins in the Antique Stickpin Gallery.

Measurements:  The bat has a 3/4" wingspan and is 1/4" tall.  The stickpin is 2 1/8" long and weighs 1.2 grams.
