Art Deco Carnelian Brooch

Art Deco cornucopia brooch. (J9303)

A carnelian center carved with an Art Deco design of two back-to-back cornucopia spilling apples, pears and cherries.  The carnelian is set in a gold frame accented with classical motifs.  A strikingly elegant brooch created by Taylor & Co. in 14kt gold, circa 1925.

Carnelian is a translucent variety of quartz that glows with reddish orange color.  The fine grain of the gem is ideally suited for crisp, richly detailed carvings.

The bezel setting is well crafted in 14kt gold with six tab prongs securely holding the carnelian.  A sturdy pin stem and early safety clasp secure the brooch when worn.  The gallery (side walls) of the setting is pierced with a decorative design complementing the classical motifs of the bezel's face

Close-up Taylor and Company maker's mark. (J9303)

This brooch was created by Taylor & Co., a jewelry maker established in the late 1800s.  The firm created beautifully designed jewels into the 1930s and is especially known for the precision and fine details of its craftsmanship.  Appropriately, the firm's maker's mark is a draftsman's T-square flanked by "14" and "K" for the purity of the precious gold.  The maker's mark is stamped on the top of the clasp.
Name:  Cornucopia

Cost:  $345
