Victorian Amethyst and Diamond Brooch

Victorian amethyst and diamond brooch in 15kt gold.

Amethyst Elegance!

A late Victorian brooch that is beautifully hand chased and engraved.  This brooch is set with a rich purple amethyst and four sparkling diamonds.  No doubt this elegant jewel glittered and sparkled on gas lit evenings a century ago.  Crafted in 15kt gold,  circa 1890.
Cost:  Although this beautiful brooch has sold,  you will find many more fine brooches in the Antique Brooch Gallery.

Measurements:  This meticulously crafted brooch is  1.75"  wide  (point to point)  and  1.25"  in height.

By examining the back you can see the care taken in creating the brooch.  The lozenge shaped amethyst is set in a sturdy bezel.  The diamonds are equally secure in diminutive collet settings.  Also note the early safety clasp and sturdy pin stem which help us date this jewel to the late Victorian era.

Here is a close up of the intricate scroll and foliate chasing.  Note that the diamonds are set with flat "prongs" that sweep upward like the petals of a stylized flower.
