Late Victorian Sapphire Cufflinks
Sapphires and Scrolls
| Elegant baroque scrolls frame rich blue
sapphires set in raised gold centers. The gold work is a
testament to the artistry and craftsmanship of goldsmiths during
the late Victorian period. Victorian jewelers had a way of
working with gold that resulted in finely detailed, flowing
designs while maintaining a sense of the precious metal's mass
and solidity. Created in 14kt gold, circa 1890.
These elegant cufflinks are as finely crafted as they are beautiful. The solid gold backs are polished to a smooth finish with gently rounded edges. Sturdy lemniscate (a fancy word for an elongated figure eight) cross bars and loop brackets secure the cufflinks on the cuff.
During the Victorian era fine cufflinks were purchased as heirlooms meant to be passed down from one generation of a family to the next. This finely crafted set has beautifully survived the last 100 years and will likely survive the next 100 years just as beautifully.
