Beautiful Turquoise StickpinTurquoise Earth |
A dramatic turquoise floats like a small planet
amid swirling curves. This striking stickpin in the Arts
& Crafts taste was created by Hayden W. Wheeler & Co. in
14kt gold, circa 1900.
The years around 1900 were an exciting period of artistic ferment among jewelry designers. The flowing forms of Art Nouveau mixed with more staid Victorian themes, early hints of Art Deco and a variety of Neoclassical and historical revivals. This stickpin is a wonderful example wedding flowing Art Nouveau curves with the symmetry and Medieval themes favored by the Arts & Crafts movement. The reverse of the stickpin (pictured below) is as nicely crafted as the front. Hayden W. Wheeler & Co. was a maker of fine stickpins, watch cases and other jewels from 1852 into the early 1900s. The firm's maker's mark is found on the reverse beneath the pin stem. Cost: Although this elegant stickpin has sold, you will find many more fine stickpins in the Antique Stickpin Gallery. |
