Egyptian Revival Stickpin

Hans Brassler scarab and serpent stickpin. (J9185)

Scarab and Serpents!

The mysteries of ancient Egypt ... two serpents with entwined tails surround a scarab carved in lapis lazuli.  A stylized lotus blossom rests atop the serpents and scarab.  This stickpin was created by Hans Brassler in 14kt gold, circa 1910.

Hans Brassler was one of the more imaginative jewelers of the early 1900s.  Born in Germany, he studied at the Academie Julian in Paris and is reported to have earned a gold medal at the 1900 Exposition Universelle.  Later he worked with Tiffany & Company prior to founding his own firm, The Brassler Company, in 1909.  Brassler served as creative director of the firm for about six years during which time he created an extraordinary collection of strikingly original jewels.

The reverse of the stickpin is nicely crafted and signed with the maker's mark of The Brassler Company - "14B" inside two ovals.

Cost:  Although this elegant stickpin has sold,  you will find many more fine stickpins in the Antique Stickpin Gallery.

Measurements:  This 14kt gold stickpin is 2 3/4" long and weighs 3.0 grams.  The top measures 13/16" by  just over 1/2".

This stickpin is beautifully crafted in 14kt gold and secured with a sturdy gold pin stem.  The maker's mark of The Brassler Company, an oval cartouche enclosing "14" followed by a "B", is stamped on the middle right of the reverse.
