![]() Sapphire and Diamond Cufflinks![]() Sapphires and Diamonds II |
Bright sapphires and diamonds in star settings
reminiscent of a mariner's compass. Rose garlands bloom
between the compass points and a surrounding geometric meander
completes the design. These elegant cufflinks are suited
for a mariner or anyone setting off on an adventure.
Crafted in 14kt gold, circa 1925.
![]() The backs of the cufflinks are crafted in 14kt white gold polished to a mirror-like finish. Sturdy cut-out cross bars (crafted in 14kt yellow gold) and capped brackets secure these cufflinks on the cuff. (Please excuse the shadowy reflections of the camera in the image.)
![]() The cross bars are stamped with the maker's mark of Charles Keller & Company (an elongated "C" surrounding "14" followed by "K"). Charles Keller was a maker of fine cufflinks from about 1885 to the early Art Deco period. The backs of the cufflinks are also marked "14K WHITE".
![]() The tops of these cufflinks are crafted in white gold. The finely detailed engraving and patina of the tops give them a soft lemony yellow glow. Name: Sapphires and Diamonds II Sapphire and Diamond
Cufflinks
Sometimes known as "Night and Day"
cufflinks, sapphire and diamond cufflinks are a
reflection of the Victorian belief that diamonds should only
be worn after dark. A gentleman would wear these
cufflinks with the sapphires facing outward during the
day. Then, in the evening, the cufflinks would be
reversed to display the diamonds.
