Elegant Art Nouveau Cufflinks

Art Nouveau cufflinks crafted in 14kt gold. (J8718)

L'Art Nouveau

Art Nouveau jewelers worked with fantasy, nature and sinuous whiplash curves to create extraordinary jewels.  Here a meditative woman breathes in the intoxicating perfume of a poppy while her hair falls in a cascade of whiplash curves.  Crafted in 14kt gold, circa 1900.

The cufflinks are beautifully modeled with exceptional depth and detail.  The repoussé figures of the dreaming woman and flower rise above the surface of the cufflinks and are surrounded with the sinuous curves of the woman's hair and rising perfume of the poppy.

The reverse of the cufflinks show the maker's careful attention to detail.  The tops are attached to the backs with curved bridges and sturdy "double U" brackets.  The surfaces are brightly polished and the outside of the bean-shaped backs are engraved "AML" in a flowing script (see reflection above).

The inside of the bean backs are stamped with the maker's mark of Link & Angell and the purity of the gold ("14K").  The firm was founded by William Link in 1871 and created fine gold and sterling jewelry until the early 1930s.  Link & Angell's maker's mark was appropriately three links of a chain enclosing an "L", an "&" and an "A".
