Sea Serpent StickpinSea Serpent with Pearl |
A twisting sea serpent snatches a glowing pearl. This happy denizen of the deep is finely sculpted with a twisting, scaly body, wing-link ears or gills and a wonderful surprised expression. Two red gemstones (likely garnets or rubies) are set as the creature's eyes. Created by Link & Angell in 14kt gold, circa 1900. Jewelers of the early 1900s created a golden menagerie of exotic and fantastic creatures. Fierce dragons, sea serpents and griffins all graced the elegant jewels of the era. This stickpin is an especially delightful example. The reverse of this stickpin (pictured below) is as well crafted as the front. The maker's mark of Link & Angell ("L & A" in three links of a chain) is stamped on the reverse above the "14K" gold purity mark. Cost: Although this elegant stickpin has sold, you will find many more fine stickpins in the Antique Stickpin Gallery. |
