The rubies are a rich deep red surrounded by an 18kt yellow gold bezel. Simple elegance and masterful craftsmanship, allow these earrings to be worn every day and with any outfit in your closet. Invisible setting of gemstones is a demanding technique developed by Van Cleef & Arpels in the 1930s. In this technique matching grooves are precisely cut along the sides of the gemstones to be set. The gems are then fitted together along a lattice of gold wires and surrounded by a gold or platinum bezel. The result is an unbroken field of sparkling gems. Invisibly set jewels came into fashion in 1936 when the Duke of Windsor gave the Duchess a holly leaf brooch invisibly set with diamonds and rubies. Truly a wonderful Christmas gift! |

From the side, you can see the depth of the bezels that securely hold the rubies. The stepped profile of the bezel is a classic look that surrounds the invisibly set rubies with concentric circles of gold.
