An alluring orange/root-beer citrine rests amid intertwining leafy tendrils and scrolls. Two accenting pearls flank the citrine. This elegant Art Nouveau brooch was created by Hayden Wheeler in 14kt gold, circa 1900. The back of the brooch illustrates the intricacy of the design and how it was crafted. Note the sturdy framework supporting the leafy tendrils and the gemstones. Also, note the sturdy pin stem and transitional safety clasp that help secure the brooch when worn on a lapel, hat or collar. It is often small, hidden details that indicate the care and skill with which a jewel was created. A small plaque on the upper reverse displays the maker's mark of Hayden W. Wheeler & Company (a large "W" enclosing a smaller "H" and "W"). The "14" and "K" surrounding the maker's mark indicate the purity of the gold. Hayden Wheeler created elegant brooches and other fine jewelry from the mid 1800s to the early 1930s. Name: Citrine Nouveau |
