Arts & Crafts Silver Brooch

Arts & Crafts Silver Brooch

The Arts & Crafts Vision of Nature!

This Arts and Crafts style silver brooch features ornately chased and repousse floral designs within a somewhat rectangular frame. The combination of a fluid floral or naturalistic design within the geometric outline is very characteristic of the Arts & Crafts movement.

We just love the beautiful detail of the flowers in this brooch and the geometric embellishment flanking the oval centerpiece. The sythetic pink stone is bezel set within an engraved wide rim, seemingly held in place by the geometric embellishments on either side.

Cost:  Although this beautiful brooch has sold,  you will find many more fine brooches in the Antique Brooch Gallery.

Measurements:   This brooch is 2.625" long and 2.0" high.

Backside of Arts & Crafts Brooch

The back of this brooch proudly displays a wonderful hallmark for the maker. Do you know who this is? We have tried to research this maker's mark in all of our reference books, however, have not yet located the name of this artist. If you know the maker, please let us know. We would like to learn more about his/her work, since this brooch is such a wonderful piece.

You can also see from the backside that this brooch has the classic "c" clasp and the pin stem extends just slightly beyond the edge of the piece, indicating the early age of this piece.

Also notice the nice heavy bezel and underframe for the center stone. Although the stone is synthetic, the piece is still a lovely example of the workmanship and detail of the Arts & Crafts movement. And, it was also common for such pieces to contain inexpensive stones; The philosophy of the Arts and Crafts designers was that the piece should have exemplary design and quality craftsmanship, but still be afforable to the common man. Therefore, many arts and crafts artisans used imitation and lesser expensive stones to keep the cost of the piece affordable.
